Google Labs has just launched Talk Guru, a service that lets you obtain basic information such as the weather, calculations, currency conversions, definitions, translations, web search results and sport scores by sending an instant message.

Here’s how to ask a question in Google Talk by using Google Talk Guru:

Sign into a chat client that supports Google Talk

Send a chat invitation to guru (at) googlelabs.com

Weather chat interface showing current conditions for Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, India.

This is a quick use of “Google Guru” and an instant reply for weather information in bhilai, India.

You can find out more about Google Guru here.

With Talk Guru’s natural language processing leaving something to be desired, the service does seem like it’d be useful for mobile users looking to avoid slow loading times–perhaps next time you’re trying to communicate with a taxi driver in a foreign country and need a quick translation.

Natural language translation is something which still would be desired functionality for “Google Guru”. Apart from using it through Google Talk on your smartphone.
